Solimar Now Offers Acupuncture!

Carey Velenchenko L.Ac., M.Om.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a system of health care that has existed for at least 3,000 years.  Acupuncture is a branch of TCM that over the past 2,000 years has been used to successfully treat more people in Asia and Europe than all other health care systems combined. This health care modality is now being accepted and used more and more in the United States.
Acupuncture includes the use of very small, disposable, sterile needles inserted into various points on the body to promote healing, and prevent disease. There is very little discomfort, if any, as needles are inserted. Most patients report a feeling of deep relaxation and over all well being during and after treatments.
No one is exactly sure how acupuncture works from a scientific perspective. It is however known that when specific acupuncture points are needled, the nervous system releases chemicals into the brain,

spinal cord, and muscles.

According to classical TCM theory, acupuncture addresses the energy or Qi (pronounced "chee") of the body including the patient's body mind and spirit. It is believed that discomfort and disease are caused by blockages of energy along the body's energetic pathways. The use if acupuncture needles in points along these pathways can open blockages and ultimately treat the root cause of many illnesses. The World Health Organization recognizes the use of acupuncture for treating medical issues such as:

· Respiratory problems

· Digestive disorders
· Neurological and muscular disorders including muscle and joint pain, headaches and migraines, sciatica, and arthritis.

· Urinary, menstrual, and reproductive issues.

Acupuncture can also be very effective in treating chronic issues like fibromyalgia, menopausal issues, and issues that Western Medicine

is unable to define.
